This design and build project was engineered to be a hybrid structure incorporating hot rolled and light gauge steel. The stair cores and stairs were manufactured from hot rolled steel to aid stability within the building and to provide construction access for trades.

The care home utilised a standard room design on all floors making the design of the mechanical and electrical elements within the LGS frame very simple and efficient. Due to the complexity of the roof, a timber trussed roof was used, which worked well with the hybrid design.

Client’s specifications meant that elements of traditional construction such as a block work lift shafts had to be incorporated into the design, but as these methods are quite slow and require drying out periods, it affected the LGS construction programme considerably. The project was manufactured in a commercial unit close to the site and delivered on a ‘just in time’ basis to minimise the storage area used on site.
